Concordia International School Hanoi is one of very few schools that conduct annual, comprehensive, extensive student-parent-counselor meetings at every grade level. At Concordia Hanoi, we term these meetings “Happiness Engineering” meetings.

Happiness Engineering meetings are an opportunity for students, parents and counselors to collaborate each year in a holistic and comprehensive evaluation of each student’s overall happiness and development across a variety of areas. We view social-emotional, academic, and college counseling needs as interconnected areas in a students’ overall development. We also view the relationship and communication between student-parent-counselor as central to a student’s overall success.

As such, we intentionally dedicate time on an annual basis to helping students prepare for their annual Happiness Engineering meeting with their counselor and parents. These meetings include a collaborative evaluation of each student’s progress in a variety of areas that are developmentally appropriate and include, but are not limited to: transition challenges, personality and character, career exploration, social-emotional wellness data, academics, course selection, co-curricular activities, summer plans, college visits, college application plans. Happiness Engineering meetings are intentionally thorough and typically range in duration from one and a half to two hours in length. These meetings are an important part of the Concordia Hanoi Counseling Department’s process of guiding students through their college preparatory educational experience in a holistic, collaborative, transparent and proactive manner.

Concordia Hanoi offers students the unique opportunity to embark on an annual week-long Concordia counselor-guided college tour of U.S. universities each June. It is truly rare to find an international school that offers its students an annual counselor-led U.S. college tour program.

This is a truly unique opportunity that is extremely valuable in helping students to identify the types of colleges and universities that might be identified as “best-fit” universities for them. We intentionally identify a variety of quite different colleges and universities for each annual tour, and intentionally moves the college tour to a different U.S. city each subsequent year. Each tour also includes specific counselor-led college counseling exercises throughout the tour week.

Students typically visit approximately 10 very different colleges and universities during their week-long tour that includes individual campus tours and information sessions at a variety of campuses.

We believe that these counselor-led, Concordia only, college tours are helpful in assisting students to gain exposure to a variety of different colleges and in developing ownership over their own individual college search. Each year, a variety of fun activities that are specific to each locale are purposely built into the tour calendar in an effort to help students enjoy the tour, and to help students to recognize that attending a university should encompass an acknowledgement of the off-campus environment and activities available to them at that particular institution.

Each year, a renowned College Admissions Director from a prestigious university visits Concordia to lead a series of information sessions for students and parents of all grade levels. These “Boot Camp” events are designed to be developmentally appropriate for each grade level.

Concordia Seniors are given the unique opportunity to participate in an intensive, informative and impactful all-day event that includes multiple sessions led by the visiting Admissions Director. These sessions allow you to gain “behind closed doors” insight into important aspects of the college admissions process that are not commonly available to high school students.

This is a truly unique opportunity that provides seniors with a series of informative and interactive sessions led by an accomplished admissions professional that help them to be better prepared in the admissions process.
