We are excited to welcome and introduce Dr. Colt Turner. Dr. Turner is the new Director of Teaching and Learning here at Concordia International School Hanoi. With an impressive educational background and extensive experience in various educational roles, Dr. Turner is eager to make a significant impact on the Concordia community.

Dr. Turner has two main objectives at Concordia. First, his focus is on continuously improving the curriculum. Second, he is committed to ensuring that our standards-based learning approach is consistent across all grade levels. Dr. Turner understands the importance of providing a cohesive and high-quality educational experience for all students and is dedicated to making this a priority.

To achieve this, Dr. Turner and our senior leadership team are implementing several key initiatives:

1. Collaboration Among Teachers: By fostering regular collaboration within the professional learning community, we will work together to build and develop proficiency scales and assessments.
2. Curriculum Mapping: We are developing a comprehensive curriculum map that outlines the specific skills and topics to be covered in each grade and subject area, ensuring clarity and consistency.
3. Professional Development: Ongoing professional development will be provided to help our teachers effectively implement the standards-based learning.
4. Assessment Monitoring: Frequent assessments will be utilized to track student progress and identify areas for improvement in curriculum delivery.

Dr. Turner is a graduate of Columbia University’s Teachers College. Dr. Turner’s educational background also includes a B.S. in Education, an M.Ed. in Curriculum & Instruction, an M.S. in Educational Psychology, an M.A. in Adult Learning & Leadership, and an Ed.D. in Supervision, Curriculum, and Instruction. He also holds a K-12 Principal’s certificate and teaching credentials in English, Language Arts, and Reading. This robust educational foundation equips him with the knowledge and skills necessary to lead our curriculum initiatives effectively.

With over 20 years in the education field, Dr. Turner has served in various capacities both in the United States and internationally. His diverse experiences include roles as a middle school teacher, district assessment coordinator, adjunct university instructor, elementary principal, and school improvement director. Most recently, he has been a school improvement specialist for an educational service center in Texas, supporting schools in developing and implementing strategic improvement initiatives. Additionally, Dr. Turner has served as the Director of Teaching and Learning for two international schools in Beijing and Shenzhen, further enhancing his global perspective on education.

Outside of his professional commitments, Dr. Turner enjoys playing tennis and traveling with his family throughout Asia and Europe. He is thrilled to join Concordia Hanoi alongside his wife, Shawna, who will be joining our Middle School faculty, and their daughter, Olivia, who will be starting as a Grade 9 student.

As we welcome Dr. Turner to our Concordia family, we are excited about the positive changes he will bring to our educational programs. His commitment to enhancing our curriculum and providing a consistent learning experience for all students aligns perfectly with our mission to foster excellence in education.
