Mr. Phillips shared, “The students became experts at writing a small moment narrative story about a meaningful memory in their lives. After brainstorming ideas, students practiced planning their story through techniques such as making mental movies of the event and rehearsing the story with a partner. They were then challenged to write not like a news reporter, but like a storyteller- by including details, dialogue, emotions, and vivid imagery in their story. To make their work their very best, students honed the skill of peer reviewing through sharing their work with classmates and providing helpful feedback to each other.”
