Elementary Writing Celebrations

Elementary classes host a Writing Celebration at the completion of every writing unit where the students showcase their stories and how their writing skills have evolved. Concordia parents and faculty celebrate their successes at these events as our writers share their stories.

Grade 2 students wrote “Personal Narratives.” Some of the works included the following:

Alfred wrote The 3 Meter Jump

It was a sunny summer day. When I was melting in my small green tent. Like I was a hot potato in an oven. Then I heard my dad say, "beach time!" "The most interesting thing I learned was to make a little moment so long. It was hard to make five words every second that happened. I am good at making lame stuff sound interesting. I am proud of how well my story went."

Ji Hu wrote The Day That My Turtle Died

When I got out of the bus I ran as fast as I can and pressed the elevator button, and waited. I could hear my heart beating...I ran to the tank but one turtle was not moving! "The most interesting thing I learned was that I could write so good. Spelling was hard for me. I am good at writing the story. I am proud of what I did for myself."

Mirai wrote My First Friend

When I was in Reception I began going to school at Concordia. But when I went to the class I saw a girl with a ponytail and her hair was very curly. I wanted to talk to her but I was very embarrassed. But my hand was shaking like someone was shaking me. Then I carefully tapped her shoulders. "The most interesting thing I learned was making like a real book like drawing an award to my book. My writing was hard for me. I am good at my drawings. I am proud of my writings and my drawings!"

Grade 4 students wrote “realistic fiction” stories, which included:

“I wrote about how someone always gave up but at last that character gets inspired, doesn’t give up, and he made the robot that he’d wanted to.”  - Minkang

“I wrote about Bob the Liar, and how he lies and rests every day when he’s supposed to be working, and the boss tells Bob that he’s going to write a plan, and finally Bob stopped and because he understood how other people felt.”  - Seiya

“It’s about a girl called Anna and she sees a boy that is sitting with what looks like his family, and they were having a conference with the Principal. Anna thought the boy had beat up another kid, and she told her friends, and then that story spread to all of the school. Then the boy heard the story and then Emma asked the boy if he really beat up a kid and then the boy said, “no.” So Emma apologized to him and now they were all friends again. I enjoyed making my own story about a lesson, and it was very fun making up characters and problems.”  - Nana
