Concordia’s National Junior Honor Society Carries Tradition, Serves Community

Concordia International School Hanoi is the only school in Hanoi with chapters of the US National Honor Society (NHS) and National Junior Honor Society (NJHS).

Founded in 1921 in the United States, NHS and NJHS are organizations for which students are selected by their teachers and administrators based on four criteria: scholarship, leadership, service, and character.

Concordia Hanoi’s chapters join generations of society members and carry on this rich tradition.

This year’s NJHS group grew from 6 to 25 members, raised over VND160 mil raised and put in more than 1200 hours of service as a collective group.

NJHS members shared their experiences:

Luna G8 “NJHS was such a good opportunity to grow in my leadership because not only did we have so many new officer positions available, we also had so many more projects than last year. Overall, it was a really successful year. We served the community not only in our school but also outside of our school.

Jeny G8 “Our goal this year was to make NJHS more student-centered, which we actually accomplished by electing new officers and having officers do specific roles. The first year when I joined the NJHS nobody really wanted to take the leadership role, but at the end of the year we improved a lot and decided we had confidence; that we are capable of leading the group. So now we have officers and that has helped us to succeed in all of the four pillars which are service leadership, citizenship character and scholarship.”

Aimi (G8) “The reason why I was eager to join NJHS was because I thought it was a good opportunity for me to not only improve one of my pillars but also to support and help the Concordia Community.”

Panda (G8) “I think this year the NJHS was a very valuable experience for me because our NJHS advisor, Mr. Sul was very dedicated to helping us. He had very ambitious goals and visions which I think helped us move forward. In the beginning we were kind of afraid to make big goals. He helped us move past that and because of that we were able to do things like take a service trip in person to go and help paint a kindergarten school. We also did other big scale projects like hosting hospitality rooms at the ASAC tournament.”
