Concordia boosts AP Offerings in 2022-23

Concordia continues to provide an impressive listing of Advanced Placement (AP) courses available to qualifying students in grades 10 through 12.

As Concordia’s high school program grows, this is the first year Concordia offers all four AP STEM Courses - AP Environmental Science, AP Chemistry, AP Biology and AP Physics - during the same year. Concordia continues to rotate AP Language and AP Literature, offering each every other year.

The Bolt spoke with three students about why they chose to take AP courses and what they see as the benefits of Advanced Placement rigor toward their academic futures.

Bella (G12): AP Art, AP Economics, AP World History, AP Computer Science: “I want to challenge myself and prepare for university. I found that AP doesn't just give me the knowledge but also the essential skills that would make me a better student. I want to show myself as a well rounded student and taking different AP courses shows that. AP helps with university credit so that can help you have a better college life.”

Isabella (G11): AP Spanish, AP Biology, AP Economics: “There is definitely more reading and more work you have to do for AP courses. They will end up being really helpful in the future because they will give you an idea of how intense college courses will be. Also you can go deeply into the areas you are interested in, broaden your knowledge and see if it’s the right path for you.”

Jae Eun (G10)*: AP Mandarin, AP Calculus: “I plan to go into the STEM field and I’m really into math. I want to challenge myself and see how much I can handle and how I can do, and to know more about the content.”

Concordia’s AP Courses offered for the 2022-23 school year include:

  • AP Environmental Science
  • AP 2D Art and Design
  • AP Biology
  • AP Calculus AB & BC
  • AP Comparative Government & Politics

  • AP English Language and Composition
  • AP Economics

*Concordia recommends Grade 10 students take one AP course, either AP Modern World History or AP Psychology; up to three AP courses in Grade 11, and up to four AP courses in Grade 12. While the majority of Concordia students follow this track, qualifying students may apply for additional AP courses for consideration on a case by case basis.

Advanced Placement (AP) is a United States program created by the College Board which offers university-level curricula and examinations to high school students. The program is widely recognized by US universities as well as universities throughout the world. Most US universities grant placement and course credit to students who score a three to five on the examinations.
