College Boot Camp 2019

On Saturday, August 24, Concordia hosted our second annual College Boot Camp. 16 seniors and their parents learned more about the college admissions process from a professional in the field, Becky Konowicz.

The Boot Camp provides Concordia seniors a unique opportunity to hear about the college application and process from the perspective of a college admissions director. Bans (G12) described it as “a change of perspective. I can now see the process from the view of the person who chooses who would get accepted, rejected, or put on the waiting list.”

Vanessa (G12) said her biggest takeaway was to balance between being “cliche and too random” in her application.

“We had a chance to look at the administrative side of an application,” said Jun (G12). “I better understand what’s important and the things I shouldn’t do, and I have a little more confidence now.”

Giwoo (G12) remarked that “My biggest takeaway from the College Boot Camp was to start as early as I can so I don’t have to stress out later in this last year.”

Becky Konowicz is the Director of International Admissions at Santa Clara University. She serves in a leadership capacity in the admission office as the university moves forward in its strategic goal to enhance global engagement. Having lived internationally, working with students from overseas is an energizing part of her life’s work.
