Fancy New Uniforms!

As the weather is starting to get cooler, it is time to look at Concordia's cold weather uniform options that are new for the 2016-17 school year. If your child has previously purchased Concordia long sleeve polos and sweatshirts, they are fine with wearing those items to school. The new items that will be available this year are: a gray full zip sweatshirt, a full zip athletic style jacket, a heavier winter coat, and a long sleeve cold gear turtleneck that will be worn under Concordia uniform polo shirts.

Concordia wants to make sure that there is enough stock on hand so every child gets the pieces they desire. We will be taking pre-orders of the items starting on Monday, November 7, during parent teacher conferences. Samples of these items will be available in the Concordia reception area. No money is due at the pre-order time.   Money for the purchase of the uniform items will be collected when the uniform items are delivered to Concordia.

Please see the accompanying images to get an idea of the new uniform items and make sure to stop by the Concordia Reception area on Monday or Tuesday during Parent Teacher Conferences to check out the gear in person.

Winter Uniforms can be pre-ordered HERE.

Movember at Concordia

From Mr. Mills in Grade 5:

This year the 5th Grade class is going to do a service learning project for the month of November.  We need your help and support!

All around the world, men raise awareness about men’s health by growing moustaches and participating in the month of Movember.

The 5th graders will be sponsoring the men of Concordia that want to grow moustache to help raise awareness about cancer.  The Concordia community will be able to donate money to their favorite ‘stache grower by dropping off a few VND into the participant's box, which will be located in the front lobby from Monday, November 14-30. The Grade 5 students will also be having a school wide bake sale to support the cause.  All of the money will be donated to a local charity.

The amount we raise makes a difference! My students in Cyprus were able to raise over 2000 Euros to support a local cancer group.  This is something that I am passionate about as cancer has impacted my family personally and millions of others around the world.  With YOUR support, Grade 5 knows that we can make a positive difference in our community through this service learning project.

Please let me know if you will be participating, so I can determine how many participants we will have.

Here is what we will need you to do:

  1. Come to school on November 1st with a completely clean-shaven face.
  2. Grow a moustache (no beard) for the entire month of November through December 2nd.
  3. The kids will take a weekly picture of you to show the progress of your manly moustache.  These pictures will be put on your donation box.
  4. Enjoy the compliments about your manliness.

That’s all you have to do!  Just grow a moustache.  The kids and I will do the rest!

On December 2nd, the 5th graders will be holding an assembly to share the results (time to be determined).  Also, all Concordia staff will be invited to our house for a Movember Party.

Ladies--- If you want to participate, I am sure we can figure something out.  Last year, the art teacher painted a new moustache on her face each day and she was able to raise over 200 Euros for her efforts.

**Spouses and parents are welcome to participate as well.

Thanks and let me know if you have any questions. If you want to participate, please let me know by emailing me here.

5th Annual US Embassy Blood Drive

What: Tet Blood Drive to Save Lives

When: Friday, January 22, 8:30am – 3:30pm

Where: Rose Garden Building, 170 Ngoc Khanh Street, Hanoi

On January 22, Concordia parents and thier families are invited to participate in the 5th US Embassy Blood Drive in cooperation with the Vietnamese National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion (NIHBT). This blood drive will be conducted with US standards for safety and cleanliness. There is no danger of contracting illness from donating blood. A new, sterile collection set is used for each donor. The goal is to collect 200 units of blood, to be used during Tet. Many local hospitals receive the blood and use it to save lives of trauma victims, surgical patients, and patients with life-threatening blood diseases. The Blood Bank typically experiences a shortage of blood and blood products before and after the TET Holiday due to the increasing number of traffic accidents.

Giving blood is a simple thing to do, but it can make a big difference 303in the lives of others. It feels great to donate and it only takes 30 minutes! And, it’s something you can spare as most people have plenty of blood to spare yet there is still not enough blood around when people need it. Most people who donate blood will experience no side effects. Drinking 3-4 glasses of water an hour before the donation can prevent lightheadedness which some people may notice. You will be someone’s hero – in fact, you could help save more than one life with just one donation. Plus, you’ll get free juice and cookies!

You can donate from 8:30am-11:30am, or from 1:00pm-3:30pm on January 22. Please register in advance by clicking HERE. A photo ID is required to gain access to the building.

Click HERE for further information on who can donate and some tips about donating blood.
