Global CodeaThon

On Saturday, May 6th eight 4th & 5th Grade students represented Concordia at the Annual Global Codeathon, sponsored by UNIS Hanoi. Fifteen schools from around the world participated in this exciting event.

The Global Codeathon is a celebratory event open to anyone interested in coding. The main goal is to foster a love of coding and to collaborate with other young coders. The Codeathon provided an opportunity for young coders to meet and learn from one another. Concordia was also lucky to have two seasoned high school coders help in teaching the younger students about programming in both English and Vietnamese!

During the Codeathon, students were challenged to create video games and animations using Scratch. Other students built and programmed robots. The most exciting part was the Coding Slam, where students from each school shared their final projects in a one-minute presentation. Scott Chen, Grade 5, represented Concordia in the Coding Slam.

It was amazing to see such high levels of creativity and critical thinking from students in countries such as Tanzania, Uzbekistan, India and of course, Vietnam! Mr. Elliott and Mrs. Snider were extremely proud of our Concordia coders - 4th Graders: U-Hyeok Kwon, Mai Anh Pham, Thao Pham, Tim Leummens, Preston Badger, Chris Cho and 5th Graders: Scott Chen and Daniel Kim.

A huge thank you to Concordia middle schoolers Linh Pham and Jack Boone. Well done everyone and we are looking forward to another great coding event next year!
