ACADEMICS

In today’s world, receiving an international education–one that affords the opportunity for children to connect with peers hailing from all parts of the globe and experience daily life in a new country–is an invaluable experience and a great privilege. Within Hanoi’s wildly international setting, Concordia provides an American-based education to the expatriate community. And while we have a great respect for the educational systems of the world, we believe that American curriculum suits the diverse needs of our students and families, and best prepares our students for success outside of Concordia’s halls.

PRESCHOOL

Child-Focused Connected to Life Developmentally Appropriate Intellectually challenging

Preschool On Playground

Here at Concordia, the Preschool Program for four year olds reflects the belief that childhood should be a journey, not a race. In our child-focused program, children are part of a community where they are accepted, respected, understood, and protected.

Every day the children are involved in activities that are absorbing, challenging, meaningful and satisfying.

Within the Preschool's nurturing environment, children have continual opportunities to grow creativity as they play, create, and explore in the classroom learning centers. Learning centers are built around themes such as literacy, mathematics, science, dramatic play, construction, art, music, water, sand, large motor skills and technology.

The Preschool program is designed for four year old children, where a strong emphasis is on meeting the individual needs of each child.

High School

Hs Student Ambassadors

Concordia High School is a dynamic international learning community that inspires students to excellence in academics, a heart for service, a personal understanding of the world we live in. Concordia’s academic program is based upon a U.S. curriculum that includes Advanced Placement (AP) and Dual Credit courses in conjunction with Concordia University Wisconsin. Concordia offers opportunities for students to participate in co-curricular activities including school clubs, sports, choir, instrument ensemble, theater and Model United Nations.

Our programs deepen the intellectual, social, physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of our students. We are a nurturing and caring community that fosters each student’s personal development. We embrace our international diversity as our students represent more than 20 nationalities. Our dedicated international faculty prepare our students for 21st century success in a global economy, with a heart of understanding and service.

Concordia firmly believes that education for tomorrow begins today through engagement in the world at large. Every student is required to participate in our off-campus learning program, Interim. Interim exposes students to cultures beyond their own and challenges their preconceived notions through discussion and reflection. This program seeks to develop communication, leadership skills, self-reliance and compassion, by drawing students out of their physical, emotional, and intellectual comfort zone with a view to gaining greater self-knowledge and richer understanding of the world around them.

The Advanced Placement (AP) program at Concordia is a rigorous academic program that offers university-level courses and exams to our high school students. Concordia also offers college course in a Dual-Credit program with Concordia University Wisconsin. A dual-credit course is a university course, taken by a high school student, that with successful completion of the course, the High School student earns both high school credit and university credit.

AP and Dual-Credit classes are completely elective; however, students who have demonstrated scholarship in prior related subjects are encouraged to consider these classes. Concordia administration, counselors, and teachers are always available to advise students on appropriate course loads.

AP and Dual-Credit courses are not for every student; however for those students who are seeking greater academic rigor, these courses offer an opportunity to demonstrate college readiness and to differentiate themselves in a competitive university selection process. Colleges prefer Dual-Credit and AP level courses over standard level courses because successful completion demonstrates that the student is willing and able to do more challenging work. Because these classes are taught at a college level, students can expect to encounter greater intensity in terms of workload and evaluation. AP and Dual-Credit students will be expected to exhibit ability to think critically and creatively, write clearly and persuasively, and participate actively in class discussion.

Why should I take Dual-Credit and/or AP courses?

  • Dual-credit earns both college and high school credit.
  • More than 90% of 4-year colleges and universities in the U.S. grant advanced placement, credit, or both for successful scores on AP Exams, and 85% of selective institutions report that a student’s AP experience favorably impacts admission decisions.
  • AP is recognized by more than 3,600 universities worldwide.
  • More than 600 universities in over 55 countries outside of the U.S. recognize AP.

The Advanced Placement International Diploma (APID)*

  • The APID is a globally recognized certificate for students with an international outlook. The APID challenges a student to display exceptional achievement on AP Exams across several disciplines

Please email our counselors, Linda Bloemberg or Christina Reed for more information.

For university representatives looking to recruit potential college students, please take a look at our World University Fair event from last year here.

EAL Program

ESL

For students who are not fluent in English, Concordia has limited spaces in our EAL program. Development of reading and writing proficiency for academic success, as well as oral and listening communication skills, form the basis of instruction within our EAL classes. All admissions of students entering our EAL program will include a review cycle where continuing at Concordia will be based on progress in English.
